Target Audience

This activity is designed specifically for dermatologists, dermato-oncologists, medical oncologists, Mohs surgeons, radiation oncologists, and head and neck surgeons involved in the multidisciplinary management of patients with cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. 

Program Overview

Locally advanced and unresectable cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) with perineural spread toward the skull base presents some of the most challenging multidisciplinary treatment decisions in cSCC care. Despite mounting evidence that upfront immunotherapy can benefit these patients, many are still steered toward surgery or radiation before oncology and other specialists are consulted, and evaluations conducted in isolation can obscure a true multidisciplinary consensus. This online, on-demand CME/CE activity—part of the six-part series Mock Tumor Board: Advancing Multidisciplinary Decision-Making in Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma—presents an interactive mock tumor board case of a patient with recurrent, locally advanced cSCC and perineural spread to the skull base, examining the risks and benefits of upfront immunotherapy versus surgery and radiation, as well as the latest efficacy and safety data. Expert faculty will also discuss risk-benefit considerations for treating disease near critical structures such as the brainstem and strategies for ensuring truly collaborative, multidisciplinary evaluation before a treatment path is chosen.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

• Apply evidence-based criteria and tumor-specific needs to determine selection and sequence of multidisciplinary specialists in the management of cSCC  
• Incorporate current evidence and clinical factors to individualize the selection and sequencing of immunotherapy for cSCC in coordination with surgery and radiation, particularly in the perioperative setting   
• Discuss risk stratification frameworks to recognize high-risk clinical and pathologic features and guide management approaches for locally advanced, recurrent, nodal, and metastatic cSCC
