Target Audience

This activity is designed specifically for primary care clinicians, registered nurses, and advanced practice registered nurses who care for patients from rural and underserved areas.

Program Overview

Uterine fibroids are common, nonmalignant tumors of the uterus that affect 70% to 80% of women by age 50. While most cases are asymptomatic, up to half experience symptoms that are severe enough to require treatment and significantly impact their quality of life. In rural and underserved communities, lack of access to specialist care and limited knowledge among primary care clinicians about uterine fibroid management both contribute to delayed diagnosis and initiation of therapy. In this activity, expert faculty will review the symptom burden of uterine fibroids, the latest advances in medical management, and how to integrate new evidence and guidance into practice. Strategies to overcome disparities in uterine fibroids care in rural and underserved areas, including shared decision-making, will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:  

• Assess the symptom burden of uterine fibroids and its impact on quality of life
• Evaluate the latest clinical trial data on the efficacy and safety of novel hormonal therapies for uterine fibroids
• Apply the latest clinical evidence and guideline recommendations into the medical management of uterine fibroids
• Discuss strategies for overcoming barriers and improving uterine fibroids care in rural and underserved communities
