Target Audience

This activity is designed specifically for primary care clinicians, nurses, eye care specialists (retinal specialists, ophthalmologists, and optometrists), and other members of the healthcare team who care for patients from rural and underserved communities.

Program Overview

Early detection, timely treatment, and appropriate follow-up care can significantly improve outcomes in retinal disease. In rural and underserved communities where access to retina specialists may be limited, primary care clinicians play a critical role in prevention and collaborative management. In this on-demand CME/CE activity, expert faculty will review risk factors for retinal disease and current guideline recommendations aimed at improving screening rates among appropriate patient populations. The program will also highlight advances in treatment and delivery, including the role of anti–vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapies, as well as team-based strategies to enhance care coordination and optimize visual outcomes across diverse clinical settings.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:  

• Evaluate the efficacy, safety, and durability outcomes of novel anti-VEGF strategies based on pivotal clinical trial and real-world evidence 
• Apply optimal strategies to identify patients who may benefit from sustained-delivery or extended-interval anti-VEGF regimens, considering clinical characteristics, adherence challenges, and procedural considerations 
• Integrate patient-centered and multidisciplinary approaches to improve treatment access, adherence, and visual outcomes in diverse clinical settings, particularly in underserved and rural populations
