Target Audience

This activity is designed specifically for primary care clinicians, registered nurses, and advanced practice registered nurses who care for patients from rural and underserved areas. 

Program Overview

Older adults in rural and underserved communities are particularly vulnerable to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection and its complications. The burden of disease is compounded by factors such as inadequate vaccination rates, socioeconomic disparities, and reduced access to specialty care, placing this population at greater risk for morbidity and mortality. In this activity, expert faculty will review the latest updates on RSV for older adults, including new and emerging vaccine strategies and best practices for communicating the importance of prevention to patients using shared decision-making. Strategies to overcome barriers such as vaccine hesitancy and medical mistrust to improve vaccine uptake and improve the health and outcomes of vulnerable individuals will also be discussed.
