Target Audience

This activity is designed specifically for oncologists and other health professionals practicing in community settings, including those who serve geographically diverse populations.

Program Overview

While gastric and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancers are relatively uncommon in the United States, the disease is not typically diagnosed until later states, and 5-year relative survival remains low. Fortunately, recent progress in the identification of molecular subtypes of gastric/GEJ cancers and novel targeted therapies, including immunotherapies, have led to biomarker-guided treatment selection and improved outcomes for patients. In this on-demand CME/CE activity, expert faculty will review strategies for effective treatment and collaborative management of gastric and GEJ cancers in the community oncology setting. The program will highlight the role of biomarker testing in clinical practice and review current and emerging systemic therapies for locally advanced unresectable or metastatic gastric/GEJ cancers. Participants from a recent Gastric Cancer Project ECHO® initiative will also share their unique insights on challenges and lessons learned while caring for individuals with gastric and GEJ cancers in community-based settings.

The content for this enduring activity was recorded on June 29, 2026.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Apply biomarker testing of gastric/GEJ tumors to improve understanding of patient prognosis and guide treatment decisions
  • Describe the mechanism of action of novel systemic therapies for unresectable locally advanced or metastatic gastric/GEJ cancers
  • Evaluate clinical evidence on the safety and efficacy of current and emerging systemic therapies for locally advanced unresectable or metastatic gastric/GEJ cancers
  • Implement team-based strategies for monitoring and managing adverse events associated with systemic therapies for locally advanced unresectable or metastatic gastric/GEJ cancers
