Target Audience

This activity is designed specifically for primary care clinicians, registered nurses, and advanced practice registered nurses who care for patients from rural and underserved areas.

Program Overview

Asthma places a significant burden on individuals in rural and underserved communities, where access to general care and specialty services is limited. Often, patients must travel long distances to be seen by a healthcare professional, placing them at higher risk for poor health outcomes. In addition, primary care clinicians in these settings may not be familiar with the latest advances in our understanding of asthma or how to manage patients with severe, uncontrolled disease. In this activity, expert faculty will review best practices for asthma assessment and monitoring, updated guideline recommendations for management, and available biologic therapies for severe asthma. Strategies for reducing disparities in care and optimizing patient outcomes in rural and underserved communities will also be discussed.

This enduring activity is a recorded session from Rural Health Clinical Congress Spring 2023 that took place on May 20, 2023.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop evidence-based treatment plans for patients with moderate-to-severe asthma that consider exacerbation risks, comorbidities, and quality of life
