Target Audience

This activity is designed specifically for hospital-based clinicians including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team who care for patients from rural and underserved communities.  

Program Overview

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on rural and underserved communities, and patients continue to experience substantial barriers to timely and effective care. Individuals who reside in these regions live considerable distances from healthcare facilities, have a higher prevalence of comorbidities, and face limited access to testing and treatment. These factors lead to delays in care and exacerbate disease progression. This on-demand activity, which is part of the CME/CE series entitled Bridging Gaps in Rural and Underserved Communities: Enhancing Diagnosis and Treatment Equity for Hospitalized Patients With COVID-19, will review rural-urban disparities in COVID-19 management as well as ways to improve outcomes by expanding access to testing and treatment in resource-limited settings. Strategies to identify patients with COVID-19 at risk for severe illness in whom antiviral therapy is warranted will also be discussed.
